This could be the perfect gift: sweet, homemade, unexpected, delicious, cheap, last but not least: a very easy recipe to make. Your present will be featured at the end of the night, leaving everyone happily impressed. Not bad, huh?

What you’ll need

  • Milk: 500 ml or 17 oz  (don’t even ask: the whole milk is mandatory)
  • Sugar: 150 gr or 0.3 pounds (some people like it less sugary, I agree, but I consider this quantity as a standard. The white chocolate liqueur is a sweet drink itself)
  • White chocolate: 200 gr or 0.75 cup (US)
  • Vanilla: Half a bean
  • Ethyl alcohol: 100 ml or 3.4 oz

Preparation

You first need to melt the white chocolate in a large pot with the milk. Stir it up with a meshed strainer. Let it boil for a while along with the vanilla. The next stage is to wait and let it go colder.
Maybe the whole night.

In the morning blend your chocolate and milk mix with the alcohol. Done.

As you’ve seen this recipe is ridiculously easy. But as we know in Autore, sometimes easy things turns the best when you put an extraordinary attention into details. Such as quality ingredients and beautiful packaging.

How to recognize a good white chocolate

First and foremost you should know that “white chocolate” technically is not chocolate because it doesn’t contain any cocoa. It’s made out of cocoa butter, sugar (usually sucrose), milk and in some cases vanilla. In order to evaluate and learn how to recognize the good one, use your 5 senses:
Vision: shiny, yellowish.
Smell: milk and vanilla.
Touch: smooth and velvety.
Sound: when we break a chocolate tablet we love to hear that unique and sharp “SNAP!”. Milky and white chocolate sound just a little bit softer and dull.
Taste: white chocolate generally contains more sugar. The dominant flavour is sweet and creamy, possibly vanilla notes.

Homemade rhymes with hand made

So you should write a proper label, or if your calligraphy is horrendous, the same as me, ask someone around with a better writing inclination. Make it simple, perhaps add a date and some drawings and decoration. Don’t underestimate this stage: it will double the value of your gift.

Last words on what you’ll get

Most of the chocolate-based liqueurs provide smoothness and sweetness, in the same time you can feel the strong and neutral grain spirit (such as Everclear). Take a picture of your creation and post on Autore’s Facebook!

Serve cold and shake it well before serving.
